Wedding First Dance Lessons in NYC
at Dance Manhattan Studios
Advice from the editor of IN STYLE MAGAZINE, Rosie Amodio, for wedding dance lessons in NYC.|
" Sign up for dance classes for wedding couples ... Dance Manhattan...they're doing a Salsa/Hustle which is so fun to a Barry White song... "
Three ways you and your fiancee can get started are: Crash Courses, Group Classes and/or Private Lessons.
Prepare for your first dance with the same care you give to your invitations, gowns, catering, flowers and music. We recommend planning at least 6 months prior to your wedding date so that you can comfortably choose your special song, the type of dance you want to do, and take lessons before "wedding frenzy" sets in.
But don't worry...if you find yourself in a last minute crunch...we're at your service and have gotten countless couples through this situation! See some of their great results at their wedding receptions and read their testimonials for their NYC First Dance Lessons!
Private lessons at our NYC studio for your wedding reception "First Dance" are best, because you will be able to dance exclusively with your fiancée and work on choreography for your first song.
From the NEW YORK TIMES: "Dancers swarm to Sofia’s to catch Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks on Mondays, leaving Tuesdays for George Gee’s manic band at Swing 46, when teachers from Dance Manhattan provide free lessons. The Cotton Club’s Monday-night swing dancing with live music is legendary. West Coast swing is taught every Wednesday at Dance Manhattan." READ MORE
If you would also like the classroom experience where you can meet other couples and learn the basics of a number of different dances, our COUPLES Group Classes or our COUPLES ONE DAY Crash Course are for you! (Couples classes are also great after the wedding!) Wedding couples often take a combination of both. The choice is yours!
We can help you choose your first wedding dance music, if you would like our experienced advice. If an orchestra will be playing your first song, we'll help you choose a recorded version to use during lessons and for practicing at home.
If you have a music selection you like, we'll help you determine if it's "dance-able" and which style of dance best fits the music, for example a Foxtrot, a Waltz, or Swing.
We'll help you decide if a choreographed (planned) routine is best for you, or random patterns you choose during your lessons to be done spontaneously during your first dance.
Choosing shoes suitable for dancing is important if you want to move gracefully, so don't hesitate to discuss these matters with your instructor.
Your instructor will be happy to make suggestions regarding the music for your first dance, the music itinerary for your whole event, or even how to select the right orchestra or DeeJay for your wedding.
In the NY DAILY NEWS - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton laughs as South African jazz singer Judith Sephuma, left, invites her to dance to African music at a gala dinner at Sefako M. Makgatho Presidential Guest House in Pretoria, South Africa, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012.
The whole display won the approval of a veteran New York dance instructor from Dance Manhattan Studios, who viewed the video at the request of the Daily News.
“I think she has excellent hip movement,” said the teacher from Dance Manhattan studios. “I think that she has a little bit of that groove in her neck that gave it a little something extra.”
He gave the First Lady of Groove bonus points for embracing the Dirty Dancing moves.

“She still looked she like was ok, she was accepting that it was fun situation,” the teacher noting that if Clinton had appeared embarrassed by the dance, the moment could have turned awkward.
Clinton, her hair pulled back in a ponytail, sported an electric blue jacket as she partied at the reception and fared far better on the dance floor than George W. Bush did when he infamously attempted an African tribal dance during a 2007 malaria awareness event.
“She was on time with the music and didn’t look like she was trying too hard,” ...“She was very cool.”
